Terms and privacy
In plain words. Last changed 28 October 2026 (Ask my history, Read it on my phone, Add to CLAUDE.md and other Claude folders added).
The short version
- ConversationKeep runs on your computer and keeps a copy of the Cowork tasks and Code sessions the Claude desktop app and Claude Code already saved there. Ordinary chats (the Chat tab, claude.ai in a browser, the phone app) are stored by Anthropic online, so it cannot copy them by itself; it keeps them only when you add the export file Claude gives you (in Claude: Settings, Privacy, Export data; then Add my chats in ConversationKeep), and only up to that export.
- It sends no conversation over the internet by itself. There is no account and no tracking inside the program. Once a day, if you leave its box ticked at install (or its switch on the Map), it asks this website for one small public file with the newest version number, to tell you when a new version is out; nothing about you, your accounts or your conversations is added to that request, and it never downloads or installs anything by itself. The one thing Claude sees is a short status line it adds to each new Code session (below), and, only if you switch on Ask my history and press Ask, your question and the few pieces it found for it (below).
- Everything it keeps is plain files in one folder you own. Uninstalling undoes every change it made outside that folder and leaves that folder for you.
- 30 days, every dollar back, one email to hello@conversationkeep.com.
What it stores, and where
Everything goes in its own folder, normally %LOCALAPPDATA%\ConversationKeep (you can pick another when you install):
- The map page you open, and a text copy of it.
- A history of your sessions: titles, dates, which project and which Claude account each one belongs to, and a copy of each session's sidebar record.
- A search index of your conversations, so you can search inside them.
- Copies of your conversation transcripts, so they survive Claude's own clean-ups (on unless you untick it at install).
- Only if you add Claude's export (Add my chats): every chat in that file, as plain files in its
chats folder, labelled by account. It reads the file you pick; the file itself is not changed or sent anywhere. To spot a new export (its own checkbox at install, also a switch on the Chats view), it looks at the .zip files in your Downloads folder that changed in the last 30 days, and in each only at the list of files inside and the account's email; it never moves or changes them and adds nothing without your press.
- A search index of the file names, titles and first lines in your project folders (the folders directly inside your user folder, except standard ones like Documents, Desktop and Downloads).
- What it works out from those copies, as plain files: your decisions and the rules you set, names for runs that start by themselves, stories across handoffs, each file's changes and how much each project used.
- Your own stars, notes, tags and pins, and an activity log of the changes it made and the settings you changed.
- Only if you set up Read it on my phone: a scrambled (salted hash) form of your passcode, never the passcode itself.
- Its settings file and the program itself.
It reads Claude's own folders on this computer, and also any other Claude Code folder you list in its settings (none unless you add one).
Nothing is stored anywhere else, unless you pick a place yourself: a second copy on another drive, a USB drive or your OneDrive folder, or a synced folder (OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox) to join several computers. A sync program uploads such a folder to your own account with that service; ConversationKeep only writes into it. Its search helper (ck.exe) answers this computer only (and your phone at home, only if you turn that on; see below).
What it changes on your computer
The installer lists each of these before you click Install. Uninstall puts each one back:
- Two entries in Claude Code's settings, so the copy updates when a Code session starts and ends (you can untick it). They add a short status line at the start of each new Code session, which Claude reads, so it goes to Anthropic with that conversation: your Claude account's email, counts of your sessions and project folders, any other account's email, your four most recent project folder names, where the map's text file is, and that session's title, folder, start date and tool names. It is never added to ordinary chats or Cowork tasks.
- Claude Code's setting for how long it keeps Code sessions, from 30 days to 10 years (you can untick it). Uninstall sets it back to what it was, so Claude Code deletes its own older Code sessions again; your copies stay.
- A small Claude skill (you can untick it); Claude Code sees its name and one-line description in each Code session.
- One Windows scheduled task, "ConversationKeep update", for your Windows user only (you can untick it): it updates the copy once an hour and a few minutes after you sign in, at low priority, with no window, so Cowork tasks are kept too. Uninstall removes it.
- A search helper, ck.exe, that runs in the background and answers this computer only. It does not start with Windows; it starts with a Code session or when you open ConversationKeep (the hourly update never starts it).
- A Desktop and Start Menu shortcut (you can untick it), and an entry under Installed apps.
- Only when you press them: Put it back copies one kept Code session's transcript back into Claude's own folder so Claude can open it again, only when Claude has no file there; it never replaces anything of Claude's, and the Activity log lists each one. That session is Claude's again, so uninstall leaves it. Terminal opens a terminal window in that session's folder and runs
claude --resume there.
- Only when you press them: Add it on the Rules page adds that one rule as a line in that project folder's
CLAUDE.md (the file is made if there is none). It shows the exact line and file first, keeps a copy of the old file in its own folder, and the Activity log lists it. The line is yours, so uninstall leaves it.
- Only if you turn on Read it on my phone: the search helper also answers phones on your home network, after your passcode, for reading only; it does not open away from home. The first time, Windows may ask whether it may use networks; Allow adds a Windows firewall rule (tick Private networks only), which stays until you remove it in Windows Security. Turn it off and the door closes at once.
- If you have two Claude accounts and tick the option: a copy of each Code session's sidebar entry in the other account's sidebar. Uninstall takes those copies back and leaves the originals exactly as they were.
Uninstall leaves its own folder, with the program and your copies; delete it yourself if you want it gone. It never deletes a conversation, never changes one, and never touches your Claude login.
What we collect
From the program: only the once-a-day new-version check, if it is on. It reaches this website like any page visit (the usual short-lived server log of the address that asked, and when) and carries nothing else. (To make small pictures of web pages in your project folders it opens them invisibly in Chrome or Edge; if such a page loads something from the internet, the browser fetches it from that site, as it would if you opened the page.) From this website: Cloudflare, which hosts it, keeps the usual short-lived server logs (the address that asked for a page, and when). This site sets no cookies. Cloudflare counts visits (which pages, which country, phone or computer) without cookies and without following you to other sites.
Ask my history is off until you switch it on. Then, each time you press Ask, your question and up to 8 short pieces of your sessions it found on this computer go to Claude (Anthropic) through the Claude program signed in on your computer, under your own account and Anthropic's terms, so Claude can write the answer. Never a whole conversation, nothing while it is off, and nothing reaches us; each question sent is listed in the Activity log.
If you email us, we see your email address and what you wrote, and use it only to answer you. When ConversationKeep goes on sale, the checkout is run by the store that sells it; we see your name, email and what you bought, never your card.
Paying and refunds
- $149 a year, for one person on every computer they own. It renews yearly; cancel any time.
- If you cancel, the program keeps working. You stop getting updates as the Claude app changes.
- Within 30 days of paying, email hello@conversationkeep.com and you get every dollar back. No form, no reason needed.
The fine print, plainly
- ConversationKeep is not made by or affiliated with Anthropic. Claude is Anthropic's.
- It reads files the Claude app writes. If the app changes those files, a record may need an update to keep up.
- We work hard to make it right, but it comes as it is: we can't promise it will never miss something, and we are not responsible for losses beyond what you paid.
- You may install it on your own computers. Please don't resell it or pass your copy on.
- If these terms change, the date at the top changes, and anything you already bought keeps the terms you bought it under.
